Keeneland!

As it was an absolutely gorgeous day today, the fiance and I went to the park with his parents and brother for a picnic, and to Keeneland race track in the afternoon.  It was quite a lot of fun.  The sun was out and it was incredibly warm, considering the cold spell we've had lately.  The horses were beautiful and I quite enjoyed the company I was in.  We had a nice time of it.  Bet on a few races, pretty much broke even, and I really enjoyed watching the horses run.  It's something else, you know, watching an animal do the one thing he was really born to do.  Sometimes I wonder if people shouldn't allow themselves just to run with their talents and their instincts more often.  I wonder if we wouldn't have better lives if we all practiced true crafts, rather than just going to an office to perform menial tasks.   What happened to craftsmanship, I wonder?  It would be nice to find furniture that isn't going to fall apart a month after you put it in your home, as well as something that isn't just an overpriced piece of mass-produced garbage.  Much of the "fine" furniture we purchase in those expensive high-end stores isn't even solid wood.  A cherry table is some cheap hardwood with thin cherry veneers, and for some reason, that disgusts me.  I guess I was just born out of my time, but I do long for simplicity in my life.  It seems like everything we do these days is fraught with complications, and these make it so hard to focus on the truly important things which we often overlook.
